5th Ave NE and Banner Way NE
Project Overview
We’re making the intersection of 5th Ave NE and Banner Way NE safer and easier to use for everyone. Right now, it’s a complex four-way stop, which can be hard to navigate for people walking, biking, and driving. In 2027, we’ll add a full traffic signal and make other changes to improve safety and accessibility for everyone.
Project elements include
- Full traffic signal
- Lighting
- Crosswalks
- Curb ramps
- New turning restrictions (scroll down for more information)
- “No Turn on Red” signs
- Protected bike lanes:
- Northbound and southbound on 5th Ave NE between NE 80th St and NE 76th St
- Southbound on Banner Way NE between NE 80th St and NE 76th St
- Parking removal on 5th Ave NE between Banner Way NE and NE 80th St
- New parking spaces on Banner Way NE between 5th Ave NE and NE 80th St
Design
The 5th Ave NE and NE Banner Way design includes a signal, bike lanes, crosswalks, lighting, and curb ramps. Parking on 5th Ave NE will be removed, and parking on Banner Way NE will be added. Graphic not to scale.
Turning Restrictions
We're introducing turning restrictions to make the intersection of 5th Ave NE and Banner Way NE safer and easier to use. These changes will help reduce confusion, improve traffic flow, and make the intersection work better for everyone.
Here’s what’s changing:
- No right turns from southbound 5th Ave NE for trucks
- No left turns from southeast-bound Banner Way NE
See below for examples of how you can get around once these changes are made.
