Title VI

Title VI and Civil Rights at SDOT

It is the City of Seattle policy to assure that no person shall, on the grounds of race, color, or national origin including limited English proficiency, as provided by the Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be otherwise discriminated against under any of its programs and activities. The City of Seattle further assures that every effort will be made to ensure nondiscrimination in all of its programs and activities, whether those programs and activities are federally funded or not.

SDOT and the City of Seattle follow regulations about Title VI from the Federal Transit Association (FTA) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). More information about the City of Seattle's Title VI program and Antidiscrimination Policy can be found through the Seattle Office of Civil Rights

We are committed to the City's values. These values shape our policies and practices, helping to ensure that public funds are not used to encourage or subsidize discrimination, regardless of intent. You can file a complaint with the Seattle Office for Civil Rights if you believe that SDOT or the City of Seattle has discriminated against you based on protected class.

We work with the Seattle Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs on a citywide Language Access Program (LAP). 1 in 5 people in Seattle use a language other than English at home. We strive to share information in the different languages our residents use. We work with translators to create written materials. This includes blog posts, social media posts, websites, flyers, factsheets, forms, and so much more. We also work with interpreters when talking with residents and business owners. It’s the law and it’s the right thing to do! Read more on the  City's Language Access Program webpage.
