At our August 2025 open house and throughout the design process, we heard what matters most to you:
- You wanted safer traffic conditions and reduce speeding
- You wanted better sidewalks and roadway repaired
- You wanted more crosswalks
- You wanted upgraded bike infrastructure
The final design reflects what you told us. It brings safety and better connections along this corridor. It also supports the goals of the Seattle Transportation Plan and the Vision Zero Action Plan.
What this Project Includes
The Roosevelt and Pinehurst Way NE Paving & Safety Project will repave Roosevelt Way NE and Pinehurst Way NE between NE 92nd St and 15th Ave NE to extend the life of the roadway by 10 to 20 years. Along with resurfacing the asphalt for smoother travel, we will be making important infrastructure upgrades, such as:
- Fixing the road base
- Upgrading curb ramps to meet ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) standards
- Improving storm water drainage systems
- Sidewalk repairs
- New and upgraded crosswalks
- New protected bike lanes
- New bus stop improvements
- Upgrading traffic signal poles
Project Overview
We are repaving Roosevelt Way NE and Pinehurst Way NE between NE 92nd St and 15th Ave NE to extend the life of the roadway by 10 to 20 years. Along with resurfacing the asphalt, we will be making important infrastructure upgrades, such as fixing the road base, installing curb ramps that meet ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) standards, and improving drainage systems.
In addition to restoring the infrastructure, the project will also look for ways to improve facilities for different types of transportation, in line with the Complete Streets policy. Proposed upgrades include new crosswalks, protected bike lanes, and bus stop improvements, such as shelters and lighting. These changes aim to make the area safer and more accessible for all.
Project Background
As part of Seattle’s ongoing pavement preservation strategy, this project focuses on maintaining critical infrastructure while integrating safety improvements. The roadway has experienced wear and tear, impacting vehicle, pedestrian, and bicycle travel. By resurfacing and repairing the road, we aim to prevent further damage and lower long-term maintenance costs.
The project builds on previous improvements at the Pinehurst Way NE and NE 117th St intersection, enhancing mobility for residents and improving access to Hazel Wolf K-8 School. By addressing safety and connectivity along this corridor, SDOT is working to meet the goals outlined in the Seattle Transportation Plan (STP) and Vision Zero Action Plan.

Funding
The project is partially funded by an $8.7 million Federal Highway Administration grant. This project is also funded in part by the Seattle Transportation Levy.
