Information chart that shows project status

We will begin the SW Barton St Layover Repaving project in April 2026. Before then, we will host a virtual information session in March 2026.

  • When: March 2, 2026, 6:30-7:30 PM
  • Where: The meeting will take place on Zoom
  • Why: Learn more about bus detours, bus stop relocations, and how our project will affect your neighborhood

If you can't join us in March, don't worry. We are happy to meet with you another time to discuss project impacts. Please contact us at the information below to schedule a briefing either in person or virtually. Click this link to sign up for the project emails.

What are we doing and why?

If you travel on SW Barton Street near the Westwood Village shopping center, you’ve probably seen the big cracks and bumpy concrete. This happens because the ground under the street is sinking, which makes the concrete sink too. The heavy buses that park there at the end of their routes make the problem worse. Our crews try to fix this by adding asphalt, but those patches don’t last long and make the street bumpier and noisier.

Now, with King County Metro's help, we are working to fix the street for good. They will replace the ground under the street with a lighter material and repave it with stronger concrete that can handle the weight of buses.

Here’s how this helps you:

  • The street will stay in better shape and need fewer repairs
  • Buses will have fewer problems, which saves money
  • Your rides—whether in a car, on a bus, or on a bike—will be smoother and quieter

This project will make it easier and safer for everyone to get to and through Westwood Village.

When are we beginning this project?

Construction expected to begin: April 2026

How will this affect you?

Part of SW Barton will be closed during construction so that we can do our work. You can expect some bus stops and the layover zone to shift to a new location and some bus routes to change (temporarily) during construction. See the changes below:
