Safe Routes to School: Wing Luke Elementary
Updated May 30, 2024
The Wing Luke Elementary Neighborhood Greenway extension and Kenyon Way S Sidewalk project are complete!
This project fills in an important sidewalk gap leading to Wing Luke Elementary. It includes holistic features that neighbors asked for like lighting and traffic calming. We also got to work with Wing Luke Elementary’s art teacher, Dawn Maxie, on an art contest where we installed 5 student art pieces on the sidewalk.

Project Area Maps
39th Ave S and S Kenyon St
We narrowed the street at this intersection and added stop signs and marked crosswalks to make it easier to cross.
37th Ave S and S Kenyon St
We prioritized this location to fill a gap in the sidewalk and urban trail network, enabling kids and families to walk safely to Wing Luke Elementary School. Project elements completed include:
- New sidewalk
- Midblock raised crosswalk on S Kenyon St, and
- New connection to Chief Sealth Trail
Funding
This project was funded by the 9-year Levy to Move Seattle, which was approved by voters in 2015, as well as the local Safe Routes to School program.
