S Jackson St Vision Zero Safety Corridor
Updated: March 2025
What's Happening Now?
We are working on planning for the S Jackson St Vision Zero Safety Corridor and will soon begin communicating with community members and stakeholders to share project information and to gather feedback.
About the Project
S Jackson St is identified in our High Injury Network as a corridor with a history of frequent collisions. To address safety needs, we’re making improvements to the corridor from Alaskan Way S to Rainier Ave S. These updates aim to reduce the likelihood and severity of crashes. This effort is part of our Vision Zero program, which aims to end traffic deaths and serious injuries in Seattle by 2030.
Vision Zero safety improvements are designed to make roads safer for everyone. We’re currently analyzing crash patterns and collecting feedback from communities along S Jackson St to determine the most effective safety treatments. Common treatments include improving visibility at intersections and pedestrian crossings, installing safety enhancement at traffic signals, and adding traffic calming, among others.
S Jackson St connects important neighborhoods like the Chinatown-International District, Little Saigon, and Pioneer Square. It also links key transportation services such as the First Hill Streetcar, the Chinatown-International District Link station, and King Street Station.
This corridor is a key route through some of the city's busiest and most diverse neighborhoods, with many people walking, using mobility devices, biking, driving, and taking transit. Data from June 2024 shows that about 3,200 vehicles travel the corridor during morning and evening rush hours, along with high volumes of buses, people walking, and biking.
Project Goals
- Base solutions on data: Use collision and traffic data to implement safety improvements where they're needed most.
- Collaborate with the community: Work closely with neighborhoods, businesses, and residents to understand their needs and build project awareness.
- Coordinate with transit partners: Collaborate with Sound Transit and King County Metro to align this project with ongoing transit work.
By working together, we can make S Jackson St safer and improve mobility for everyone.
Why This Project Is Important
S Jackson St corridor is part of Seattle’s High Injury Network, meaning it has a history of traffic collisions that cause serious injuries or deaths. This makes it a priority for our Vision Zero Program, which aims to eliminate traffic deaths and serious injuries in Seattle by 2030.
Project area
The S Jackson St Safety Corridor extends from Alaskan Way S to Rainier Ave S, and we will prioritize safety treatments along this corridor where they are most needed.
