Bitter Lake

Project Overview

We’re making improvements in Bitter Lake to make it safer and more comfortable for people to walk, bike, and roll in the neighborhood. These upgrades were requested by community through previous Home Zone outreach.

This project is being built as part of the Neighborhood-Initiated Safety Partnership Program, which works with the highest need communities to design and build safety improvements. We expect construction to begin in late 2026.

Project elements include*:

  • Two new speed cushions on N 125th St between Phinney Ave N and Evanston Ave N
  • Four new speed humps on N 127th St between Greenwood Ave N and Fremont Ave N
  • Four new speed humps on N 128th St between Fremont Ave N and Aurora Ave N
  • Upgrades to an existing traffic diverter at N 125th St and Dayton Ave N from paint and post to concrete

*Speed humps extend the full width of a street, and speed cushions are divided into sections to allow larger vehicles, like fire trucks or ambulances, to travel through without delaying their response time.
