District 4 — Project Updates

2018 Your Voice, Your Choice: Parks and Street Elected Projects

STREETS | 20th Ave NE between NE 65th St and Lake City Way NE

Traffic Calming Upgrades

Project Overview

20th Ave NE, between NE 65th St and Lake City Way NE, is designated as a collector arterial with a posted speed limit of 25mph. It supports access to Ravenna Eckstein Community Center and Playground, a nearby Church, and people commuting to the city, which includes a high volume of cyclists. Installing traffic calming upgrades enhances safety and predictability for all travelers.

Project Solutions

  • Evaluate the existing speed limit
  • Install static speed limit and radar feedback signs – locations to be determined
  • Paint parking lane line to clarify travel lanes along the corridor

Neighborhood: Ravenna

Total Cost: $88,000
YVYC Funds: $88,000

Project Schedule and Updates

Construction was completed in March 2020.

STREETS | 25th Ave NE and NE 77th St

Crossing Improvements

Project Overview

The lack of safe, marked crossings to Dahl Playfield is a challenge for people traveling to the park. Seattle residents must either cross a busy street at an unmarked location, or travel to the only marked crosswalk that connects to Dahl Playfield at NE 80th St. By adding crossing improvements, we can effectively shorten pedestrian crossing distance, increase visibility, accessibility, and safety for all travelers.

Given the project's location, we’ll partner with Parks & Recreation to complete implementation, pending their approval.

Project Solutions

  • Install a new marked crossing on the north leg of NE 77th St across 25th Ave NE
  • Install an ADA compliant curb ramp on the NE corner
  • Install a curb bulb into 25th Ave NE on the north side of NE 77th St

Neighborhood: Wedgewood

Total Cost: $90,000
YVYC Funds: $90,000

Project Schedule and Updates

Construction was completed in December 2019.

STREETS | Burke Gilman Trail crossing Stone Way N at N 34th St

Crossing Improvements

Project Overview

The Burke Gilman Trail (BGT) crosses Stone Way N at its busy intersection with N 34th St. Vehicles traveling southbound from N 34th St must cross the BGT, which is a hazard for trail users.

We’re partnering with the Protected Bike Lane (PBL) program on the N 34th St Mobility Improvements Project, to plan, design, and implement the project.

Project Solutions

  • Enhance safety at the intersection of Stone Way N and N 34th St and Burke Gilman Trail
  • Partner with PBL programs on the N 34st Mobility Improvement Project

Neighborhood: Wallingford

Total Cost: $182,000
YVYC Funds: $90,000
BMP Funds: $92,500

Project Schedule and Updates

Construction was completed in April 2021.

Installing a marked crosswalk with pedestrian islands, provides refuge for people crossing the street, and enhances, visibility, accessibility, and safety.

Project Solutions

  • Install a marked crosswalk on the south leg of NE 85th St, across 15th Ave NE
  • Install hatched median islands to provide refuge and increase visibility of people crossing the street

Neighborhood: Maple Leaf
