Ward Springs Play Area Renovation
Updated: March 31, 2025
Spring 2025
The project design is at 100% completion, with construction planned to start in late summer of 2025.
We're excited to share the preferred play area design for Ward Springs Play Area. Thank you to everyone who attended our engagement events and provided their input to help shape the final design. For efficiency and cost-saving measures, Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) bundled three play area projects (Ward Springs, Bryant Neighborhood Park Play Area, and View Ridge Playfield Play Area) to be bid out as a single project. The goal is to create a package of similar work that will allow us to solicit competitive bids from the contractor community and create opportunities for efficient project delivery during bidding and construction as compared to bidding out all three sites as independent projects. To be packaged with the other two play areas, Ward Springs needed to be held at 100% design for the other projects to catch up.

Schedule
Planning: 2023
Design: 2024 - Spring 2025
Construction: Late Summer 2025 - Early 2026
This project is part of a package of three play areas that are being renovated. The above planned construction duration includes renovations at all three locations.
Project Description
This project will replace the existing play equipment with new equipment that meets current safety and accessibility standards. All improvements will be compliant with the standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
During construction, the contractor will need to close the play area portion of the park. Seattle Parks and Recreation and the contractor hired for the project will work to minimize the impact on the neighborhood. Thank you for your understanding as we all work towards a new play area for children of all ages and abilities!
