About

Magnuson Community Center is notable for its unique location inside Magnuson Park, a former U.S. naval air station that is now Seattle's second largest park at 350 acres. The park has more than 10 ballfields, nearly 40 acres of wetlands, a large play area, a dog off-leash area, a swimming beach and boat launch on Lake Washington, a historic district, and trails and roads connecting everything. To the south of the community center is Solid Ground Housing which serves more than 250 formerly homeless residents in permanent and transitional housing, and to the west is Mercy Magnuson Place - North, a low income apartment community with over 105 units.

Built in the late 1930s as part of the Navy base, the community center building was remodeled in 2002. The community center was recently renovated in 2023 and included a build-out of the south wing of Building 47 at Magnuson Park, giving SPR greater programming capacity. The improvements also created more accessibility to the entry, parking and lobby. The community center offers an inclusive safe space serving people and communities by connecting them in a multi-generational and multicultural environment that supports activities for all. It features 4,800 square feet of renovated space, including physical activity rooms with a dance floor, a multi-purpose room connected to the kitchen, a music room, new furniture, all-gender restrooms, all new furnishings from Catalyst Workplace Activation and new heating and air conditioning systems. SPR worked with Buffalo Design and Western Ventures to design and construct building improvements.

Magnuson Community Center offers a variety of free programs for the community, from sports drop-in to teen programs and special events. The center also provides a wide variety of camps and classes, focused on everything from music and art to sports and cooking (plus more) for all ages and family fun!
