Magnolia Neighborhood Skate Park Conceptual Design Study
Updated: September 19, 2025
Fall 2025
The Magnolia Community Center Advisory Council (MCCAC) has raised $10,404 for design services against the $42,000 estimated budget for the skatedot design. MCCAC has since submitted a draft grant application to the Neighborhood Matching Fund to cover the funding gap.
Before the current fundraising phase, the project team presented a detailed location and site analysis along with a preliminary conceptual design, which was approved through Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR). The Magnolia Community Center Advisory Council will continue raising funds for design and plans to hire a skatepark designer to begin conceptual designs once funding is available.
During the initial phase of the project, the MCCAC partnered with Grindline Skateparks to develop preliminary concepts with funding from the Neighborhood Matching Fund. The size of the skate park (“Skate Dot”) is up to 1500 sq. ft. in keeping with the 2007 Citywide Skatepark Plan.
Location
Magnolia Playfield, 2518 34th Ave. W, Seattle, WA 98199
Budget
Phase 1 - Initial Design Concept is $5000 from a Neighborhood Matching Fund award from the City of Seattle Department of Neighborhoods.
The MCCAC has raised an additional $10,404 for design services.
Project Description
This project will establish a skate park conceptual design showing potential configurations and locations within Magnolia Playfield for a new skate park. We will have a budget estimate for the construction of a skatepark for the preferred concept developed through public design review meetings.
The skate park is currently envisioned to be a multi-use facility compatible with skateboards, scooters, rollerblades, tricycles, and bicycles. The skate park will be targeted towards beginner and intermediate skill levels and will provide the neighborhood kids with a safe and healthy outdoor activity.
It will be located within Magnolia Playfield, and three possible locations have been identified through a consultative process. Grindline Skateparks solicited and incorporated feedback from the community on possible locations during two community design meetings that resulted in the selection of likely skatedot location and preliminary conceptual design.
