Dr. Blanche Lavizzo Park Activation

Updated: November 18, 2025

Winter 2025

Seattle Parks and Recreation is seeking community feedback and collaboration on the Dr. Blanche Lavizzo Park Shelter House. We will be hosting a community feedback session to address ongoing challenges such as safety concerns, accessibility barriers, and park misuse by fostering open dialogue with the community.

The Shelter House area at Dr. Blanche Lavizzo is currently closed and SPR will extend the closure until December 27, 2025.

Please join us on Thursday, November 20, from 6:00 to 7:45 PM at Garfield Community Center, 2323 E Cherry St.

During the meeting, you’ll have the opportunity to share ideas and feedback on how SPR can support the community, activate the spaces through recreational and community activities, and enhance public safety. SPR will discuss future potential permanent fencing and useful park infrastructure. We recognize that this park has been impacted by activities incompatible with its intended use. We are working to ensure that all parks are clean, safe and welcoming.

Project Description

This community-centered initiative invites residents, businesses, and organizations in the Central District to come together to enhance the safety, vitality, and inclusivity at this neighborhood park. This activation strategy seeks to address ongoing challenges such as safety concerns, accessibility barriers, and park misuse by fostering open dialogue and transparent partnerships.
