West Queen Anne Playfield
About
This six-acre park is across the street from McClure Middle School to the north and Queen Anne Community Center and Pool to the east. Its fenced-in grass fields, with baseball backstops and bleachers, are used for baseball, softball, and soccer. Outside the fence, a partially wheelchair-accessible children's play area includes swings, slides, a merry-go-round, and a climbing structure. There are benches nearby and a bicycle rack.
West Queen Anne Playfield Lighting Replacement Project
Early 2023 Update
This project will replace the aging wooden playfield poles on West Queen Anne "Big Howe" Playfield. The project will include the removal of 14 wooden poles with light fixtures and installation of 10 metal poles and energy efficient LED lights with hoods. The new lights will reduce light spill into the neighborhood and sky. The project will also update the hub for new wiring and control system.
Budget
The Seattle Park District and the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO) Grant provide $1.2M for this project.
Schedule
Bidding: March 2022
Construction: June 2022 - February 2023
Anticipated Impact
During construction, the fields will be closed. Seattle Parks and Recreation and the contractor hired for the project will work to minimize impact to the roadways, neighborhood, and heritage trees on the east side of the field.
