Cheryl Chow Park
About
Cheryl Chow Park is a 1.2-acre park serving the high-density neighborhoods of Columbia City and NewHolly in the northern Rainier Valley.
Over 50 new trees, open lawn, bioretention swales, pathways, play and fitness equipment, a half basketball hoop, picnic areas with barbeques, and lighting create an ADA-accessible multi-generational gathering space. Textile/fabric designs representing the diverse cultures and heritages of the neighborhood are incorporated in the park.
The park is named after the late Seattle Councilmember Cheryl Chow, whose life and career were dedicated to public service. As a long-time Councilmember, Chow devoted her life to serving the people of Seattle, particularly those in marginalized communities.
Serving on the City Council from 1990–97, Chow championed parks, spearheaded the renovation/building of recreation centers throughout Seattle, forged the Seattle Public Schools-Community Centers agreement, and extended recreation hours for after-school programs. Chow passed away in 2013.
