Volunteer for Trees
Tree Care
Do you love trees? Does a stroll down a tree-lined street put a smile on your face? Trees for Neighborhoods offers many ways for you to volunteer and get involved in caring for our city’s trees and natural areas on sites that can strengthen Seattle’s public land.
Volunteers support locations that need healthy forest to support cool and shaded urban creeks throughout Seattle. While you beautify and strengthen local neighborhoods, you will also be building your tree care skills and connecting to your natural surroundings and neighbors.
Types of volunteer opportunities
Tree Care
Help care for trees on public land in neighborhood spaces by joining work parties to remove ivy and other aggressive weeds that damage our forest. We also mulch, water, plant new trees and plants, as well as other small tasks that keep trees healthy. Our staff organize events and provide tools, instruction on tree care skills, gloves, snacks, and more. Find a tree care event near you.
Do you have a group of 10-30 people who would like to work together to care for Seattle's trees? Contact us about bringing your group to a work party by emailing TreesforNeighborhoods@seattle.gov.
Growing Trees
Are you interested in caring for new trees? You can learn how to cultivate and tend to the young tree that become Seattle’s yard and street trees at Cedar City, our tree care facility. Connect with Cedar City by emailing TreesforNeighborhoods@seattle.gov.
Tree Walks
Volunteer Tree Walk leaders give tours of neighborhood trees to engage their community in caring and learning about the trees they live around. Volunteers lead these walks as a public event and Trees for Neighborhoods supports with advertising, all tree walk content, and more. Email us for more information: TreesForNeighborhoods@Seattle.gov.
