Salmon Stewards & Celebration
Every year, you are invited to help celebrate salmon’s journey home to Pipers Creek in Carkeek Park.
Salmon Stewards—Carkeek Park
Volunteers are present along the creek in to help you spot fish, navigate beaver dams, and answer questions Wednesday afternoons and mid-day hours on Saturdays and Sundays from late October through early December.
Salmon Celebration—Carkeek Park
Attend the free Salmon Celebration to listen to live music, watch demonstrations, listen to experts, and spot the salmon swimming by the Saturday before Thanksgiving.
Seattle Public Utilities, Seattle Parks and Recreation, and the Carkeek Watershed Community Action Project invite you to see the salmon up close, and to learn how the ways in which we all protect clean water also protects the wildlife in Seattle’s backyard.
4 things you can do to protect salmon
- Wash cars at a commercial car wash, not on the street or in driveways. Soap and pollution from cars runs down storm drains and into waters where fish live.
- Plant and care for trees in your yard – evergreen trees protect fish the most.
- Pick up your dog’s poop and put it in the trash. Bacteria from dog poop harms fish.
- Creamy, Liquid, Oily, Greasy, Saucy foods cause CLOGS in your pipes which can lead to backups and water pollution. Put them in your compost, not down your drains.
