Report Water Pollution

You can help SPU reduce and prevent water pollution by reporting spills and other drainage system or water pollution concerns.

SPU response time varies depending on the reported impact to the drainage system.

Spills

Report spills to our Operations Response Center at (206) 386-1800 (24 hours a day, 7 days a week). SPU responds to spills within two hours.

A spill is when a pollutant (like chemicals, oil, gas, soapy or muddy water, firefighting foam) has been leaked onto the ground. Spills are a public hazard and/or an urgent risk to our drainage system. They can be carried by rain into the drainage system and, in some cases, lakes, creeks and rivers.

Water Pollution Concerns

Report water pollution concerns via the water pollution report form or report line at (206) 684-7587. SPU inspectors respond to water pollution concerns within three business days.

Human activities and/or business practices can increase the risk of pollutants (like chemicals, waste, sediment, soapy or muddy water) to enter the drainage system. By implementing best practices at home and at work, we can reduce the chances of pollution entering our drainage system and, potentially, our lakes, creeks and rivers.

For other urgent issues, please see SPU’s utility Emergencies page.
