Additional rights for employees
The Domestic Workers Ordinance provides its protections regardless of whether you are an employee or an independent contractor.
Other labor standards may also afford you additional protections if you are considered an employee as defined by that labor standard. Some of those additional employment-based protections include:
- Paid Sick and Safe Time, which requires employers to provide paid leave for employees to use when they need to take time off work for physical or mental health conditions, doctor’s appointments, getting help with domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking, and if their workplace or their family member’s place of care has been closed.
- Fair Chance Employment, which restricts how employers can use information about criminal history in employment decisions.
- Wage Theft, which requires employers to pay all compensation owed to an employee.
