Energy Conservation

City Light has the longest running energy conservation program in the country. Helping our customers use less electricity is the most effective way to keep bills low and meet the growing energy needs of our communities. Using the electricity supply we have more efficiently means City Light does not have to acquire additional energy resources to power our region, even as demand increases.

Since 1977, our energy efficiency programs have reduced annual load by nearly 1.5 million megawatt-hours - the equivalent annual electricity use of approximately 190,000 Seattle-area homes. Each year we provide nearly $40 million in energy efficiency incentives to our residential and business customers that have resulted in a cumulative savings of $136 million on customer electricity bills.
