Learn to lower your energy bill and earn incentives!
Strategic Energy Management (SEM) helps organizations in Seattle City Light’s service area improve energy performance through operations and maintenance, and behavioral changes.
Commercial and multifamily building owners can earn incentives by reducing energy consumption and implementing energy management best practices. City Light’s SEM program will also help put your building on the path to compliance with Washington Clean Buildings Performance Standard (WA CBPS) and—for buildings within the city limits of Seattle—Seattle Building Emissions Performance Standard (Seattle BEPS).
Strategic Energy Management Benefits
If you qualify for the SEM program, you will:
- Learn how to lower operating costs and achieve persistent energy saving and emissions reduction.
- Get on the path to compliance with both WA CBPS and Seattle BEPS.
- Join dynamic quarterly workshops, offering technical and organizational training and the opportunity to share practices and solutions alongside peers.
- Work with an energy and climate coach for ongoing support throughout the program – up to two years. This includes:
- One site walkthrough to identify energy-saving opportunities and help prioritize project implementation.
- Assessments and action planning to support integrating energy management into business practices.
- Coordination with the organization’s extended energy team to address specific needs and goals.
The program is free for participants. Your investment is your time spent attending workshops and program activities – an investment which should yield energy savings as well as valuable organizational benefits.
Performance & Milestones Incentives
Earn incentives for energy saved and milestones for actions completed that support persistent energy savings.
Performance incentives are paid based on savings at the building level.
Earn $0.08 per kWh saved.
Milestone payments provide financial incentives for completing energy management best practices such forming an energy team, securing executive sponsor support, and regular operations and maintenance (O&M).
Depending on the type of building (commercial or multifamily), there are a range of potential milestone incentives:
Earn $1,000 to $2,000 per milestone completed.
How to Qualify
To be eligible for our SEM program:
- You must be a current City Light customer who owns or operates a commercial or multifamily building larger than 20,000 square feet within our service area.
- The individual buildings you enroll in the SEM program should have a minimum whole building usage of 250,000 kWh.
