Hillman City P-Patch
(submitted by a Hillman City P-Patch community gardener)

Hillman City P-Patch is a gem of a neighborhood gathering place nestled in the heart of the Hillman residential neighborhood. Our P-Patch's beauty is due to its productive, efficient, resourceful nature - a working person's garden. Experienced, elder Laotian growers work side-by-side American-born novice gardeners. Preschoolers of a nearby school maintain a lovely plot, neighborhood school-age children swing from our large willow, and neighbors drop by to view the whole production.

Hillman City P-Patch was awarded a Neighborhood Matching Fund grant in 2009 to redesign the gardening area and community open space at our site. A Redesign Steering Committee was formed from gardeners and neighbors. A complete redesign of the garden was carried out in 2014 to make room for more plots and some much needed upgrades.
