Community Safety and Capacity Building

The Community Capacity Building and Safety Team works at the intersection of community and City government. Our role is simple but powerful: help communities shape solutions and ensure their voices guide how the City works in their neighborhoods.

We partner with residents, neighborhood organizations, and local leaders to strengthen community leadership, expand participation, and build the capacity for communities to lead their own visioning and action plans. Much of this work focuses on the Chinatown International District and other equity areas where strong partnerships and coordinated engagement across City departments are essential. Our team also supports community safety efforts in neighborhoods across Seattle. Community Safety Coordinators in South Park, Chinatown International District, Ballard, and Capitol Hill connect residents, business, and City departments to address public safety challenges and improve communication and coordination.

We convene conversations, reduce barriers to participation, and help ensure City programs and decisions reflect the priorities and lived experiences of the people most affected by them. We believe strong communities create safer communities. When residents have the tools, relationships, and support to lead, neighborhoods become more connected, resilient, and able to solve challenges together. By investing in community leadership and collaboration, the Community Capacity Building and Safety Team helps build a Seattle where every neighborhood has the opportunity to thrive.
