Research, Planning and Evaluation Group (RPEG)

The purpose of the Research, Planning, and Evaluation Group (RPEG) is to increase the effectiveness, efficiency, and accountability of court programs and services. RPEG Analysts provide planning, evaluation, and analytical expertise for all operational and programmatic areas at Seattle Municipal Court.

  • 2023 Analysis of Seattle Municipal Court Imposed Criminal Fines and Fees

    In response to Seattle City Council's Statement of Legislative Intent (SLI) SMC-001-A-002 and Recommendation 9 in the Seattle City Auditor’s 2021 Report (Assessment of Seattle Municipal Court Probation Racial and Ethnic Proportionality), SMC was requested to review criminal fines and fees imposed on individuals due to their involvement in a criminal case and determine whether payments owed disproportionately affected individuals by race and ethnicity.
  • 2017 SMC Fine and Fee Inventory for City of Seattle Reentry Workgroup

    This report was prepared by SMC staff in response to City Council Resolution 31637, directing the City of Seattle Reentry Workgroup to  "inventory and assess the City's current imposition and collection of fees and fines for criminal infractions."

RPEG has developed several data visualizations in Tableau on frequently requested data sets. Many of the reports can be adjusted to narrow the data set (e.g. by date range, violation, etc.).
