North Aurora Initiative

What is the North Aurora Initiative?

The North Aurora Initiative is a City of Seattle effort partnering with the community to shape the future of the North Aurora corridor through street and utilities investments, long-term visioning, and short-term improvements.

The Initiative includes core infrastructure and planning projects led by Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT), Seattle Public Utilities (SPU), and Office of Planning and Community Development (OPCD), as well as many other City departments working together with residents and community-based organizations to plan for the future.

Several departments at the City of Seattle are working together to plan for the future of the North Aurora corridor. Together, these planned projects will have a major impact on communities along North Aurora related to infrastructure, utilities, community amenities, housing, safety, and public space.

In addition, through the North Aurora Initiative, City departments are coordinating to support small businesses, enhance community safety, and support art, placemaking, and activation opportunities along the corridor.

Why Are We Working in North Aurora?

Communities along Aurora have long advocated for a vision of the corridor that improves livability and guides equitable growth and investment in their neighborhoods. Historic disinvestment along the Aurora corridor has contributed to longstanding inequities and community challenges that the North Aurora Initiative aims to help address. In response to this advocacy, the City is partnering across departments and with community to plan for the future.
