Demographer's Corner

Demographics are Key to Planning

Effective planning and place-making requires that we understand the characteristics of the people and households for whom we are planning. This means understanding current demographics in the city and the neighborhoods within it, as well as anticipating changes that broader trends will bring.

The demographer, as a member of the Office of Planning and Community Development staff, provides independent and objective analysis to City officials on population characteristics related to the city's physical development plans, policies, projects, and services.

City of Seattle Data Collaboration Team

The City's interdepartmental Data Collaboration Team facilitates the sharing and informed application of data for planning, community development, and related functions. Coordinating Data Collaboration Team activities is part of the demographer's work.
