Crime Victim Advocates
The Crime Victim Advocate is responsible for advocating on behalf of the family/survivor of felony crimes to ensure access to community resources, Crime Victim’s Compensation benefits, interpreters, and trauma counseling.
Advocates do not represent law enforcement and are not Seattle Police Department employees. However, having a Crime Victim Advocate embedded in the police department allows the survivor to have a voice and personal agency in their experience. Advocates will communicate with crime survivors in all languages via interpreter services and ensure culturally specific resources are offered:
- Domestic Violence Victim Advocates (domestic violence, stalking, and elder/vulnerable adult abuse)
- Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Victim Advocates (sexual assault, child abuse, and trafficking)
- Violent Crimes Victim Advocates (homicide, violent assaults, robbery, and hate crimes)
