Description:
This adaptable tree will thrive along the street or in your backyard. Mature trees are stately with a broad form with spreading branches. The perfect tree for providing shade on hot summer days.

Where to Plant:
Excellent street tree option for planting strips without overhead wires and at least 6 feet wide. Also makes a great yard tree.

Leaves:
Dark green leaves turn yellow-brown in fall. Leaves tend to stay on trees through winter.

Fruit:
Acorns provide a great source of food for wildlife.

Preferred Site Conditions:
Plant in full sun. Prefers well drained soils, but adaptable to wide range of soils.

Potential Problems:
Good pest resistance, but can be susceptible to oak wilt, anthracnose, and cankers.

Minimum Planting Distances:

  • 15 feet from house or building
  • 3 ½ feet back from the face of the curb
  • 5 feet from underground utility lines
  • 10 feet from power poles
  • 7 ½ feet from driveways (10 feet recommended)
  • 20 feet from street lights and other existing trees
  • 30 feet from street intersections
