Living Building Pilot - Inspections

Inspections

4 Living Building Pilot Watershed photo by Weber ThompsonThe Living Building Challenge includes "challenge" in the name because the methods, materials, and strategies used during construction are integral to the certification. The inspection and post occupancy requirements vary depending on the petals chosen by the project team. We require a pre-occupancy touchpoint to ensure projects are on track for meeting the challenge and the SDCI requirements related to energy and water. After occupancy, many of the petals require a performance period of 12 continuous months before a final audit is performed by the International Living Future Institute. For instance, energy use is measured and compared to the targets established in the approved energy model. Sometimes the performance period can be extended to adjust systems or wait for full occupancy. We review the audit for final approval of the project which will be at least 1 year from the date the certificate of occupancy was issued.
