Retail Theft Program (RTP)
What is the Retail Theft Program?
The Retail Theft Program is a free alternative reporting system for businesses within the city of Seattle which allows the Seattle Police Department to better track and address retail theft. Reports are submitted by a business representative, reviewed by the retail theft detective or members of the General Investigations Unit, and assigned/investigated from there.
What can the Retail Theft Program offer my business?
Participating in the Retail Theft Program allows business representatives to report shoplifts after they have occurred without needing an in-person police response. Each report is reviewed by a member of law enforcement to ensure thoroughness and completeness. From there, attempts to identify any suspects or refer charges are made. The Retail Theft Program is also able to perform retail theft operations or assist with crime prevention walkthroughs at businesses citywide as staffing and scheduling allows.
What do I need to join the Retail Theft Program?
- Be a representative of a business in Seattle.
- Provide your first and last name.
- Provide your work email address.
- Provide your primary work address.
- Provide your work phone number.
- Be willing to write quality shoplift reports.
- Retain photos, video surveillance, and itemized receipts after shoplifts.
