Housing Production Task Force
Streamlining the Permitting Process Towards Affordable Housing
In August 2026, Mayor Katie B. Wilson announced actions outlined in Executive Order 2026‑4 to address housing production and affordability. The order is designed to encourage both affordable and market‑rate housing by streamlining permitting and launching a Housing Production Task Force to advise her housing agenda.
The Task Force brings together representatives from labor, affordable housing providers, community-driven organizations, and market-rate developers.
Task Force Purpose
The group’s role is to develop and advance policies that accelerate housing production to meet Seattle’s growing and changing needs.
Over the next 12 months, the Task Force will partner with the Mayor’s Office, City departments, and City Council to identify shared, collaborative solutions to:
- expedite and incentivize housing production
- encourage and support community-driven development
- support the critical affordable housing infrastructure our city and region need
- prevent displacement of low-income households, including Black, Indigenous, and People of Color communities
The task force will provide a status update, including early policy recommendations, by February 2027, and will deliver final recommendations by September 2027.
What's Happening Now?
The Task Force is organizing its work program and identifying the priority topics. Meeting materials and summaries will be posted on this website.
