Training Division

Training Division operates the Joint Training Facility and provides firefighters with continuous operational training on an annual basis. Firefighters receive a variety of general training courses including apparatus driver training, marine firefighting, hazardous materials, rescue and collapse and operational readiness.

In-Service Training

On average, Training Division facilitates more than 20,000 hours of structured formal training to the department. This includes general training courses including apparatus driver training, marine firefighting, hazardous materials, rescue and collapse and operational readiness.

Recruit Training

All new hires to the Seattle Fire Department must complete Recruit School. This physically and mentally intense 15.5-week program consists of approximately 700 hours of training. Candidates who can meet the challenge, will earn Firefighter I Certification, as well as training in Technical Rescue, Hazardous Materials and Driver/Pump Operator.

Vacant Buildings

From single-family residences to large commercial structures, training in buildings similar to ones firefighters respond to helps enhance firefighter skills and response readiness. If you have an abandoned, vacant or ready to be demolished building and would like to allow firefighters to conduct training in it, please contact Training at (206) 386-1772.
