BACKGROUND

The Seattle Climate Action Plan, adopted in June 2013, focuses on city actions that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and also support vibrant neighborhoods, economic prosperity, and social equity.

On Earth Day 2025, Mayor Harrell issued an Executive Order (EO) for Seattle to develop a modernized Climate Action Plan focused on climate resilience and adaptation, building a green economy, and protecting public health, as well as near-term actions to reduce transportation emissions.

Timeline and Next Steps for the New Climate Action Plan

City Departments will be conducting inclusive engagement and outreach with most impacted communities, developing an advisory panel, and collaborating with Tribal governments, private sector, and others. 

By Q3 2025, the City will release an audit of the 2013 Climate Action Plan. The new Climate Action Plan is scheduled to be released by Q3 in 2026.
