Reducing Transportation Emissions
Our Work
Transportation is the number one contributor to greenhouse gas emissions in Seattle.
Whether it's going to work, taking kids to school, running errands, or going to the doctor, our transportation system connects our communities to where they need to be. But as our city grows, there is more competition for our already strained streets and pollution is increasing at a time when we need to move away from fossil fuels.
Our transportation system, powered by fossil fuels, is responsible for sixty percent of Seattle's climate pollution. This is primarily due to emissions from cars and trucks and disproportionately harms Seattle’s Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) communities.
Our Programs
Programs the city of Seattle runs to reduce emissions from transportation.

Transportation and Climate Justice Executive Order
Mayor Bruce Harrell signed an Executive Order directing City departments to work together to prioritize and expand actions that equitably reduce or eliminate greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) within the transportation sector.

Low Pollution Neighborhoods
Low-pollution neighborhoods help the city achieve its ambitious climate goals to make Seattle a greener, healthier, more prosperous and equitable place to live.

Exploring Road Pricing
By exploring equitable road pricing policies in Seattle, we have an opportunity to reduce emissions and improve mobility while generating stable and progressive revenue (meaning that the fees are paid by those people most able to pay) to invest in climate and transportation-related programs and projects that most directly benefit communities of color.
