Climate Ready Curriculum
The Climate Ready Curriculum provides information on how to prepare yourself and your community for Seattle-specific climate hazards. It was co-created with community-based groups and organizations to support community climate resilience. After reviewing the curriculum, you’ll have knowledge of:
- How to prepare yourself and your neighbors for wildfire smoke, extreme heat, extreme winter weather, and extreme rain and flooding
- How to stay safe and protect your health during these climate hazards
- Where to find additional free resources, services, and information to make sure you’re prepared

A Free Educational Resource for Individuals and Groups
The curriculum is designed for youth and adults who want to learn about climate change, including what it is, how it is impacting our region, and how to keep their neighbors and themselves safe during extreme, climate-related events.
How to Use the Curriculum
The curriculum is organized into three independent modules: Extreme Heat & Wildfire Smoke, Extreme Winter Weather, and Extreme Rain & Flooding.
In each module you will find:
- Background information that includes the purpose of that module, key vocabulary words, ideas for related activities, tips to teach the module to groups, frequently asked questions about that climate impact, and additional resources.
- A step-by-step facilitator guide to prepare you to teach the content to groups including group and individual activities, a list of materials needed, and suggested room setup.
- A presentation designed for facilitators to use when they teach the module.
- A series of graphics and visuals for each activity in the module.
Teaching a Group
We recommend you start by reading the background information, the facilitator guide, and the presentation. Once you determine which activities you want to use, download the corresponding graphics and visuals. Each module is designed to take 60-90 minutes in a group setting.
