Gas Works Park Renovations – Playground, Restroom and East Entry

Updated: March 5, 2024

Spring 2024

Restroom and East Entry

In early July 2023, WS Contractor, LLC opened a major portion of the East Entry renovation project. The restroom building will open by the end of March 2024. Porta-potties are in place for park visitors. WS Contractor and Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) are working with the contractor to minimize the construction impact on park visitors and request visitors’ cooperation in following detours and closures at the park.

The existing restroom will be replaced with a new accessible all-gender facility that meets the Americans with Disability (ADA) standards and Life Safety Code Compliant Structure Goals. The facility is situated in a new location offering increased sight lines and safety.

Additionally, the project will make extensive ADA improvements to the east entrance of the park, create a food truck location in the park, install a new plaza, new seating wall and ADA parking stalls.

Play Area - Thank you, Seattle! This project is complete.

Wyser Construction replaced the decayed smoke arrestor in the middle of the play area in January 2018. The smoke arrestor cap was an original piece from the Gas Works plant that was repurposed in the 1970s original play area design. The replica cap was fabricated off-site and required a crane to assist in the installation. This was one of the final items for the play area renovation project.

A new remediation/injection/monitoring well system has been installed under the play area. The Play Area project was awarded to Wyser Construction.
