FRESSSSSH!

August 1, 2024 - October 5, 2024

Reception: August 1, 2024

How does it feel to walk into a museum space? In these silent rooms, the bright white walls full of art depict the lives of the few, leaving many feelings out of the narrative. The Office of Arts and Culture partnered with Seattle City Light to present a summer Young Adult/Youth Curatorial Residency, Fresh Perspectives, to combat this narrow portrayal and include those often left out or ignored in these spaces.

FRESSSSSH! the exhibit title for the 21-day intensive curated by the ten BIPOC Young Adult/Youth curators offers a view into the world of five inspiring local, regional, and national BIPOC artists: Damon Brown, Aramis Hamer, Warren W. Pope, Warren A. Pope, and Kellie Colemon. These artists have captured the presence, history, and identity of some of the most hidden narratives in American culture.

In the process of curating these works, the youth were given the opportunity to learn and gain an introduction to the world of art curation, culture, and creative, critical design through interpersonal connections with curators, museum administrators, educators, artists, and more.

As you view this exhibit, be prepared for a fresh experience that will inspire, challenge, and open your perspective.
