Welcome to Seattle City Light
Seattle City Light is a publicly-owned utility dedicated to exceeding our customers' expectations in producing and delivering environmentally responsible, safe, low-cost, reliable power. We are committed to delivering the best customer service experience of any utility in the nation.

Nickels and SCL Score Big for Conservation
In a major event at Qwest Field, Mayor Greg Nickels and Superintendent Jorge Carrasco launched a new energy savings action plan that will double Seattle City Light's current conservation program over the next five years. The $185 million investment in dozens of efficiency programs will save customers more than $310 million in their residential and business bills over five years and create more than 1,000 green jobs. The increased investment, seven times the national average, puts City Light in the forefront nationwide, and by avoiding the need for new energy sources ensures that Seattle's electricity rates will remain among the lowest in the nation. "We're putting our conservation program on steroids," the Mayor said.

Mariners and SCL Go Green
Seattle City Light and the Seattle Mariners scored major green

L to R: Bruce Harrell, Twisty (with a bag!), The Moose, Jorge Carrasco
points at the Seattle-Cleveland game on July 20. SCL gave away 20,000 reusable shopping bags to fans at the game to promote Green Up! and Twist & Save, and at the same time gave recipients a head start in switching over to reusable grocery bags. Councilmember Bruce Harrell threw out the first pitch and Twisty, the CFL mascot, was there to call it a strike.

"Green" Home for Woodland Park Penguins Saves Energy and Water
Humboldt PenguinThanks to a $65,000 grant from Seattle City Light, Woodland Park's Humboldt penguins will soon have a state-of-the-art home that saves energy and water. The City Light grant helps offset the cost of installing an innovative geothermal system to keep water temperature at a comfy level for the penguins. Projected savings over conventional systems: 22,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year and 430,000 kilowatts during the life span of the system - enough to power 43 homes for a year and take 57 cars off the road per year. Mayor Greg Nickels led a ground-breaking ceremony at the zoo in July. The new exhibit is expected to open in May 2009. Watch the video.

New Video: Thirty Years of Conservation and Environmental Leadership
See the new 8-minute video highlighting Seattle's and Seattle City Light's accomplishments in conservation and environmental stewardship. City Light was ahead of the curve when it inaugurated its first conservation programs in 1973, and has maintained its leadership role to the present day in limiting greenhouse gas emissions, protecting fish in the Skagit River, and helping customers to use energy wisely.
