About Mandatory Reporting

A mandatory reporter is someone who is required by City Personnel Rules to immediately report observed or suspected instances of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, or workplace misconduct as outlined in Personnel Rule 1.1.

While reports can be made directly to the Human Resources Investigations Unit (HRIU), in order to resolve issues at the lowest level, if you are a mandatory reporter, you should report all possible or alleged prohibited behavior to your HR Representative. If it requires a formal investigation, they will involve HRIU.

Mandatory reporters include, but are not limited to:

  • Manager, Director, Executive

  • Crew Chief or Supervisor

  • HR Representative

  • Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Officer or Advisor
