Annual Enrollment for Retiree Medical Plans: The Annual Enrollment period for 2026 City of Seattle medical plans is Monday, November 3 - Friday, November 21, 2025. If you are a City of Seattle retiree or dependent currently covered on an under-age 65 or Medicare plan, watch for your Annual Enrollment packet in the U.S. mail. If you want to stay on your current plan, no action is necessary. If you are changing medical plans offered through the City, you must fill out an enrollment form and submit it to the SDHR Benefits Unit postmarked no later than Friday, November 21, 2025. Call our office at (206) 615-1340 or email us at Benefits.Unit@Seattle.gov to request an enrollment form be sent to you.

The Law Enforcement Officers and Fire Fighters (LEOFF) Retirement System is a defined benefit plan that provides a secure, formula-driven income for retirement. Plan participation is determined by when you first became a member.
LEOFF Plan 1 is for employees who became members before October 1, 1977. LEOFF 1 Police retirees have medical coverage through the Washington State Department of Retirement System. LEOFF 1 dependents can buy medical coverage through the City of Seattle.
LEOFF Plan 2 is for employees who first became members on or after October 1, 1977. LEOFF 2 Police retirees and dependents can purchase medical coverage through the City.
