Criminal Division Internships
With more than 200 attorneys and professional staff, the Seattle City Attorney’s Office is one of the largest law offices in Seattle and is the third largest public law office in the state. City Attorney Ann Davison is committed to positively impacting public safety through data-informed decisions and strong collaboration with public safety partners. The Office is committed to providing the highest quality legal counsel and representation to the City of Seattle and its elected and appointed officials.
The Criminal Division represents the City in prosecuting misdemeanors, gross misdemeanors, and traffic infractions in Seattle Municipal Court, including DUI, domestic violence, theft, assault, property damage, and trespassing.
Criminal Division Internship Requirements
Prior to beginning an internship at the Seattle City Attorney’s Office, candidates selected for an internship must fulfill the licensing requirements outlined in Rule 9 of the Washington State Bar Association.
It is highly recommended, but not mandatory, that an intern candidate complete specific courses before beginning a Rule 9 position. Courses include Evidence, Professional Responsibility, Trial Advocacy, Criminal Law, and Criminal Procedure. (Absence of this coursework will not eliminate strong candidates.)
Additional Information
- Minimum age is 18 years old.
- Able to pass a criminal background check.
- Be available to work in the Seattle City Attorney’s Office during regular business hours.
* A hybrid schedule may be possible, depending on supervisor approval. - Required minimum time commitment of at least one quarter or semester.
* Note: some positions require a six-month commitment. - Must have completed at least one year of relevant school or work experience.
- Must possess basic computer skills.
- Certain positions require additional training or education.
- Interns may earn educational credit as authorized by the student's school.
- Internship positions are not eligible for employee benefits.
