Cart Size & Rate Calculator

Use this calculator to estimate the monthly cost of your garbage and yard waste service. Calculated separately are rates for residential dumpster service and backyard pickup service. Cart dimensions can be found on the Food & Yard and Garbage Rates pages. Additional information:

  • You can change your cart size for either or both services (garbage, yard waste) for free once per 12 months. Additional changes are $31.45. Change container size.
  • Recycling is free. Have more recycling? Add another cart or put extra recycling in a paper (not plastic) bag or a cardboard box next to your curbside cart, all for free at any time.
  • Learn more about special (extra and bulky) collections, including extra garbage bags for $12.70 each, bulky items for $30 each, or yard waste bundles for $6.55 each. Contact Seattle Public Utilities to schedule any of these pick-ups.
  • There is a maximum weight limit for each garbage or food and yard container. 12/13 gallons: 20 lbs, 20 gallons: 30 lbs, 32 gallons: 60 lbs, 64 gallons: 120 lbs, and 96 gallons: 180 lbs.
