About Councilmember Mark Solomon

Mark Solomon was appointed to the Seattle City Council's District 2 seat on Jan. 27, 2025.  His priorities include public safety, expanding economic opportunities, creating housing, preventing displacement, supporting small businesses, and permit reform. 

Councilmember Solomon brings extensive experience to the role. He holds the Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) Professional Designation and the ASIS International Physical Security Professional (PSP) Certification. A Seattle native, he served as a Crime Prevention Coordinator for the Seattle Police Department from 1990, working with community groups, individuals, and businesses on public safety issues. 

A retired United States Air Force Lieutenant Colonel, Solomon served as an intelligence analyst and senior intelligence officer. He also founded Obsidian Security Group, a Seattle-based security staffing and consulting company. Additionally he serves as Vice President of the Washington State Chapter of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) and as President of the Washington State Crime Prevention Association (WSCPA). 

Solomon lives in Seattle's Beacon Hill neighborhood with his wife, Suzanne, a high school art teacher, in the home his grandparents built. He admits to being a science fiction and comic book nerd.
