Luminous Being by Zabia Colovos is an immersive journey of mythic imagination that walks the space between the conscious and unconscious.

With a body of work spanning over a decade of self-reflection and profound inquiry into the nature of human suffering and our inherent capacity to heal, Colovos invites us on a voyage of the Soul in which we encounter both our darkness and our light, with all paths leading to wholeness.

Through multimedia installation, photography, sculpture, and more, Colovos’ work reveals an intimate view of the artist’s personal life journey while holding space for visitors to witness their own.

What to Expect

Luminous Being contains 2D and 3D works and film projections, including drawings of mythic imagery and dream symbols, photos of the human form, sculptures and photos depicting human anatomy, and film documenting natural landscapes and a funeral ceremony. The exhibition also includes a viewing station depicting works, speeches, individuals, and ideas that inspired the artist for this exhibition.

Artist Bio

Zabia Avra Colovos is a multicultural, transnational, transdisciplinary artist, educator, and facilitator born in Seattle, Washington on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples.

A child of Greek and Ethiopian origin, Colovos forged a path exploring her own identity, power, and consciousness in hopes of understanding the constellation of her own lineage and transnational identity. She received her BA from Occidental College in Religious Studies, Critical Theory Social Justice, and Sculpture & Mixed Media.

Colovos’ artistic practice spans performance, installation, mixed-media, healing, and site-specific activations. Her study and practice of spirituality is grounded in decolonization and African independence, motivated by the dream for collective liberation. She is currently working on several land, education, and arts-based DEI and reparation projects in Washington State and is excited to move to Ethiopia next year, where she will be archiving ancestral spiritual and healing systems.
