28th Ave NW – Adams ES Neighborhood Greenway
Updated February 28, 2024
What's Happening Now?
We are excited to announce that construction is starting on the Adams Elementary Neighborhood Greenway on 28th Ave NW as soon as spring 2024! We will be installing the Neighborhood Greenway in stages, starting this spring and finishing in 2024.
The street improvements on 28th Ave NW from NW Market St to NW 77th St will include:
- Stop signs with stop bars on side streets intersecting the Neighborhood Greenway
- Speed humps or cushions to calm traffic
- 20 mph speed limit signs
- No parking signs 20 feet from intersections
- Minor crack sealing and patch repair with asphalt
- Tree trimming and sidewalk smoothing
- Wayfinding signs and markings
The Adams Elementary Neighborhood Greenway will provide a safer, calmer route to the places people want to go in the neighborhood and connect to the growing network of Neighborhood Greenways, trails, and protected bike lanes in Seattle.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING CONSTRUCTION:
Typical construction hours are weekdays, 7 AM to 5 PM, with occasional weekend and night work. Other expected construction effects may include:
- Noise, vibration, dust, and debris
- “No Parking” areas and temporary driveway and parking impacts for construction staging near the work sites
- Crosswalk and sidewalk closures, and detours for people walking and biking
- Roadway closures and detours for vehicle traffic
- Changes in construction schedule due to unforeseen circumstances (i.e., weather, soil conditions, etc.)

Project Overview
This Neighborhood Greenway has been planned in coordination with the Safe Routes to School Program and will provide a safer, more comfortable route for people walking and biking to Adams Elementary School. The planned Neighborhood Greenway route also connects to the existing Neighborhood Greenway on NW 58th Ave.
What is a Neighborhood Greenway?
Neighborhood greenways are safer, calmer residential streets for you, your family, and your neighbors. We make people walking and biking the priority. The new neighborhood greenway will bring affordable, active transportation options for all ages and abilities.
Neighborhood greenways can include:
- 20 mph speed limit signs
- speed humps to calm traffic
- stop signs for side streets crossing the neighborhood greenway
- signs and pavement markings to help people find their way
- easier crossings of busy streets with crosswalks, curb bulbs, flashing beacons, or traffic signals
