Camp Long Building Stabilization

Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) contracted with Diverse Earthworks through an emergency public works contract to stabilize the Camp Long Lodge Building after fire damage occurred in late 2024.

SPR repairedthe hole in the roof, reinstated electric power to climate controls, provided temporary shoring of masonry, repaired damaged structural framing and worked to prevent the building from further deterioration. This work was done to maintain the historic building for future use and to comply with the Seattle Department of Construction & Inspections correction notice. SPR secured permitting to provide a modular trailer on site to assist with programming.

SPR is working with our partners at the Associated Recreation Council to maintain some of the programming that is run out of the facility including the Ropes Course and Summer Camps.

Camp Long Lodge Renovation

A predesign study was completed in December 2026 to assess the repairs needed to reopen the lodge. Based on the study, the estimated funding needed to restore the building to an occupiable condition is $7.5 to $10 million. The estimate includes fully repairing the fire damage, replacing the fossil fuel heating system with electric heating and cooling, and bringing the building up to current code standards.

SPR is currently initiating the next phase of planning for the project, including hiring a design consultant to develop more detailed plans. SPR is exploring grants and other funding opportunities, as the project is only funded through the design phase.

Budget

Funding for Stabilization: Insurance settlement

Funding for Renovation: Remaining Insurance settlement funds were used for a pre-design study and are continuing to fund additional design for the lodge renovation. Beyond insurance funds, there is currently no dedicated funding for the building renovation. SPR is evaluating several grants and other funding opportunities to further the project.
