About

Yesler Community Center, located in the heat of the Yesler Terrace housing neighborhood, serves people from a multitude of world cultures, including a number of different East African communities.  The community center also draws participants from the First Hill neighborhood to the north, which includes Harborview Hospital, and downtown Seattle, located west and down the hill from the center.

Built in 2004 to replace the old community center, the current building is a beautiful building that is certified as environmentally sustainable. The open space of the lobby features a display of photography by the center's youth. Other interior spaces include two multipurpose rooms with a commercial-grade kitchen, an arts and crafts room, other smaller rooms and a gym with a regulation-size basketball court.

The variety and sizes of these rooms provide spaces for a wide array of programs, activities and special events, catering to the needs and desires of the community. The center hosts annual events such as Juneteenth and Mother's Day Brunch while offering regular programs for toddlers (indoor gym), youth (basketball, badminton, volleyball and other sports), adults (dance, martial arts) and seniors (pickleball). There's something for everyone!

In August 2018 the Yesler Neighborhood Park project developed a 1.7-acre neighborhood park that is part of the Yesler Terrace Master Planned Community. The intent of the park is to serve as a gathering place for current and future residents of Yesler Terrace as well as people who live and work in the surrounding community.
