Mount Baker Park Improvement Projects

Updated: April 10, 2024

Spring 2024

In the summer of 2020, the City of Seattle turned its focus to essential functions to address the pandemic and economic crisis, which required a significant reprioritization of resources. Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) suspended many capital projects including the two Mount Baker Park Improvement Projects below. Funding for these projects is identified in the 2022-2027 Adopted Capital Improvement Program for Parks and Recreation.

Seattle Parks and Recreation is working to get an Architect on contract for the restroom project.  The architect hired will pick up the design development phase of the project from where it was left in 2019.

Thank you to everyone who attended the open house to learn about two improvement projects at Mt. Baker Park. Seattle Parks and Recreation's staff were at the Mount Baker Beach Bathhouse on March 20, 2019, to discuss building improvements to the Bathhouse and new restrooms at the Mt. Baker Park Play Area. View documents from the Open House below.

Mount Baker Beach Bathhouse Renovation and Accessibility Improvements

This Seattle Park District Fix It First - Major Maintenance project upgrades the existing Mount Baker Beach Bathhouse. The building interior will be retrofitted to meet accessible standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other interior improvements to reduce maintenance. Access from the parking lot to the building will be evaluated and improved if necessary, to meet ADA standards.

During construction, the contractor will need to close the Bathhouse and associated construction zone within the park. This may impact the park. Seattle Parks and Recreation and the contractor hired for the project will work to minimize the impact on the neighborhood.

Mount Baker Play Area Public Restroom

This Seattle Park District project provides a new restroom at the Mount Baker Play Area and closes the existing restroom building. SPR is evaluating if the new facility will be pre-engineered or a customized building.

The proposed new structure will include two unisex facilities, each with individual access. All will be located and designed to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and safety standards, and intended to serve the children's play area and other park users.

During construction, the contractor will need to close the construction area within the park. This may impact the play area. Seattle Parks and Recreation and the contractor hired for the project will work to minimize the impact on the neighborhood.

A potential rendering image of the restroom can be found below.
