Join us for an exciting summer serving community as a Seattle Parks and Recreation temporary employee! We are seeking motivated, enthusiastic individuals for a variety of positions this summer to provide welcoming and safe opportunities to play, learn, contemplate, and build community and promote responsible stewardship of the land. 

Employment opportunities are open to individuals ages 16 and up, or 18 and up for some positions. Some positions require a WA State driver’s license, or other certifications. Please review individual job postings for more details.

Lifeguard.... starts at $24.98

Lifeguard (Temporary, Intermittent)

The City of Seattle is proud to have raised Lifeguard wages by 16% in addition to cost of living increases!  

Seattle Parks and Recreation pools and beaches are a vital part of the culture in a city surrounded by water. Join our team to help monitor swimmer safety, rescue persons in distress, and lead instructional programs to help community develop swimming skills.  

Temporary Lifeguards may work summer-only positions at our 9 swim beaches and 2 outdoor pools (Colman and Mounger), and/or year-round positions at our 8 indoor pools.

Recreation Attendant.... starts at $24.98

Wading Pool Attendant

Apply to become a Seattle Parks and Recreation Wading Pool Attendant! You will meet new people, make new friends, and enjoy the summer while getting paid! Wading Pool Attendants work an average of 24 hours a week but can work up to 40 hours if needed.

Duties Oversee the operation of wading pool. Clean, fill, drain, and maintain the water quality of the wading pool and surrounding area. Act as the on-site relations representative of Parks and Recreation. Perform first aid and handle incidents as they arise. 

First Aid and CPR Certificate required and offered within first week of employment. 

Summer Food and Fitness Recreation Attendant 

We are hiring for multiple positions to deliver responsible, exceptional recreation services through summer playground, summer sack lunch, and food and fitness programs. Responsibilities include park site setup and cleanup, proper food storage and record keeping, and other recreation program duties as assigned.  

Up to 40 hours per week, June 12th to August 27th. Work locations vary across multiple park sites in Seattle. 

Summer Camp Recreation Attendant for Adults with Disabilities 

Summer Programs will run weekly Monday June 17- Friday Aug 23, 2024 (No programs June 19th). Hours vary and are at a different site each day.

Join a team of compassionate recreation professionals who are dedicated to providing safe, adaptive, and engaging opportunities for individuals with disabilities to recreate and enjoy the beauty of Seattle’s natural spaces! Staff in this role will support day and overnight camps serving campers ages 4-21 years old with developmental and/or physical disabilities.

Recreation Leader.... starts at $31.63

Boat Ramp Ranger 
Hang out with us by the water and help oversee boat ramp operations this summer! This position monitors collection of fees and directs ramp traffic during peak use hours. 

Normal schedules range from 14-24 hours per week in 2024, primarily weekends and holidays.

Summer Community Engagement Ambassador

Community Engagement Ambassadors build awareness among hard-to-reach audiences about opportunities, services, and City resources. Additionally, they are responsible for increasing and strengthening community participation in City of Seattle services and assisting community in planning and implementing programs, special events, and activities in their respective communities.

Summer Learning Academy Recreation Leader 
Support Seattle Public School elementary and middle school students in this school-based program. This position offers meaningful opportunities to support and inspire young people as they explore their college and career passions through project-based learning and enrichment activities. 

We are hiring for multiple program locations including Denny Middle School, Mercer Middle School, Washington Middle School and James Baldwin Elementary School. Programs run June 5th - August 18th Monday-Friday. If you are up for the challenge, we invite you to apply today! 

Outdoor Activation and Mobile Recreation Leader  
Support the fitness, nutrition, and youth career exploration needs of our community. Lead daily outdoor recreation activities, maintain program materials and equipment, supervise participants, engage community, and develop program and event recommendations.
