What We Do
The Sweetened Beverage Tax Community Advisory Board (CAB) was established by the City Council (Ordinance 125324) to advise and make recommendations to the Mayor and City Council on programs and services supported by the Sweetened Beverage Tax (SBT).
The CAB was formed in 2017 and has published over 30 high-impact recommendations. For example, CAB recommendations have contributed to the following:
- Expansion of Fresh Bucks and Seattle Farm to Preschool
- Creation of the Food Equity Fund, Prenatal-to-Three Communit Grant Program, and Healthy Food in Schools initiative
- Budget legislation (Ordinance 125886) to protect use of SBT revenues and establish a separate SBT Fund for transparent account of SBT revenues and expenditures.
The CAB also provided input and advice to academic researchers who led the five-year evaluation to study the effect of Seattle's Sweetened Beverage Tax on health and economic outcomes. Learn more.
