Are you interested in becoming a heavy-duty mechanic apprentice with the City of Seattle? The City of Seattle's Finance and Administrative Services (FAS) apprenticeship program will teach you the skills and knowledge for a lifelong career as a heavy-duty and diesel mechanic.
Along with working full time for the City of Seattle, apprentices are required to attend classroom training for the first two years of their apprenticeship at a local college. This provides the opportunity for you to earn your associate degree, paid for by the City.
- Apprentices are full-time, paid City employees. You will receive a decent wage and a generous benefits package.
- FAS will pay for your education at Lake Washington Technical Institute’s Diesel and Heavy Equipment Technician program—giving you the ability to obtain your associate degree at no cost to you.
- Evaluations are done periodically throughout the apprenticeship program to obtain pay step increases.
- The apprenticeship program is a four-year/8,000-hour program.
